Several doctors were attacked and gunshots were fired at Cairo's Qasr Al-Aini hospital on Tuesday, leading the hospital to temporarily close its doors. According to Al Ahram Arabic-language news site, the attack was the result of a fight that had erupted in Cairo's impoverished Boulaq district. Two of the injured were transported to the hospital for treatment with one dying of their gunshot wounds. Angered by his death, relatives attacked the doctors and destroyed parts of the hospital's seventh floor. They also went on to search for other patients whom they believe were involved in killing their family member. Meanwhile, security officers arrested two of the assailants and called for reinforcements. Doctors declared a strike to protest the assaults against their colleagues.

  India
India's power supply has been fully restored after a two-day blackout hit much of the country, officials say. More than 600 million people were affected by the power outage after three electricity grids collapsed, one for a second consecutive day. The power failure caused havoc, with whole cities grinding to a halt and transport and other services badly hit. The breakdowns in the northern, eastern, and north-eastern grids affected 20 of India's 28 states. Power System Operation Corporation chief S.K. Soonee said electricity had been restored in all three grids overnight on Tuesday by engineers from the state-owned company. The blackout caused chaos on transport networks with hundreds of trains stranded and water supplies interrupted. In Delhi, Metro services were halted and staff evacuated trains.

  Myanmar
Government forces are continuing to persecute Muslims in Burma's Rakhine state after failing to protect them during deadly clashes in June, Human Rights Watch has said in a report. Security forces had killed and raped members of the Rohingya group and arrested hundreds of others, it said. The 56-page report is the second to draw attention to abuses in Rakhine state. The UN has sent an envoy to investigate the violence that killed at least 78. The Burmese authority has stopped journalists and aid workers from getting to most sensitive parts of the state in the weeks since the worst of the violence.

  Poland
Catholic and veterans' groups in Poland are protesting against a concert by Madonna because it falls on the anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising. Some are urging ticket holders to boycott Wednesday's show, which comes 68 years after the city's failed revolt against Nazi occupation. Organizers of the concert have agreed to show a short clip about the events of 1944 before the performance. Every year, Poles commemorate the 200,000 lives lost during the uprising. One Catholic group called Krucjata Mlodych, or Youth Crusade, has started an online campaign urging people not to attend the concert. They say more than 50,000 people have signed up to their Don't Go to See Madonna campaign. The group also says anti-Madonna mass services and street prayer sessions have been held. They accuse the singer of offending their faith through her use of burning cross and crown of thorns imagery, and say she promotes pornography and sexual deviation.
